Old Man Luedecke folk/roots
Thursday July 5, 8pm $25 festival pass $70
Old Man Luedecke is one of Canada’s best loved and most intriguing roots singer-songwriters. Luedecke is a young man with an old soul who doesn’t sugar coat his fears - this lets his songs breathe with a fresh breeze of bittersweet hopefulness. He channels a refreshing energy from folk giants like Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger with maybe a hint of Loudon Wainwright III. But its Luedecke’s contemporary lyrics coupled with the irresistible rhythm of the old time banjo that connect and make him so loved with his audiences. Anchored in his music’s melodic confidence is an ability to tap into a common muddled and dark search for meaning. This keeps people singing his songs and praises after he’s traveled on. “An original, he is a musical singularity to be savoured and shared”, says the Vancouver Folk Festival. http://www.oldmanluedecke.com/ Presented by Meaford Hall as part of the East Coast Festival, July 5 to 7

A great blues show for a sultry summer night: 2012 Maple Blues Award winners Carlos Del Junco and Steve Strongman take the stage to bring the best of blues in harmonica and guitar.
To say he plays the harmonica is like saying "Jimi Hendrix plays guitar". He blows the blues harp through a prism -- suddenly it seems he's holding every color in the musical rainbow right there in his hands.
Simultaneously sophisticated and raw, his playing blurs the boundaries between blues and jazz, leaving the listener for a new and profound appreciation for the instrument, and the artist. http://www.carlosdeljunco.com
Charisma. Verve. Passion. Unbridled talent. Beyond Strongman’s talent as a songwriter and guitarist is his ability to engage his audience and deliver an outstanding performance at every live show. With his inimitable guitar playing and soulful vocals, Strongman delivers incredible performances with power and passion.
Steve Strongman's astounding guitar playing and expressive songwriting combined with his entertaining showmanship, have firmly established him as one of Canada’s best new Blues artists. http://www.stevestrongman.com

Equally at home on the concert stage or at a folk festival, Cape Breton fiddler Natalie MacMaster is one of the most versatile and exciting young musicians on both the Folk music and Celtic music scenes. Escape from Suburbia is a rich interplay on the subtle relationships between the potential solutions each person faces as the demand for fossil fuels outstretches supply. With issues such as the energy crisis, neighbourhood gardens and the collapse of the American way-of-life, it would be easy for the independent film to use its 90-minute running time to whirl into a rant that leaves the viewer shocked and the director sounding like an eco-crazy - but the result of Escape from Suburbia is the complete opposite.
