Millhollow Bed and Breakfast
When Paula and Milan Stepan decided to move out of Toronto in 2007 and open a bed and breakfast, they looked into locations all over Ontario and Canada. Having travelled extensively they wanted a location they could be sure would attract tourist clientele throughout the year.
“We settled in Meaford because of the four season possibility. We’re right near the Blue Mountains and Beaver Valley for skiing. We have access to the Grey/Bruce for hiking and biking.”(Paula Stepan, co-owner of Millhollow Bed and Breakfast)
Meaford was also attractive because of its proximity and easy access via Highway 400 to the Greater Toronto Area (population 5.5 million). . Just as they had hoped, Millhollow is busy all year long attracting urbanites seeking scenic weekend retreats.
The B&B sits on a beautiful treed property by the Bighead River which runs through town and is within easy walking distance of the Meaford’s scenic downtown.
Although they have been in operation only a few years, Millhollow has become an attraction in its own right and a tourism portal for Meaford, with the couple referring guests to local businesses, restaurants and attractions. They have become some of the area’s most active advocates.
“We see great business potential in Meaford for expanding the available dining and retail experience.” Paula Stepan, co-owner of Millhollow Bed and Breakfast)
The Stepans were recognized for their efforts by the Meaford Chamber of Commerce as recipients the Tourism Award from 2008-2010.
