2012 WASTE MANAGEMENT GUIDE
Residents and businesses are mailed copies of the Waste Management Guide Annually. This guide is a summary of the Waste Management Initiatives provided by the Municipality. Below is a copy of the 2012 Waste Management Guide.

Drop off your yard waste free! The Municipality of Meaford Leaf and Yard Waste Facility is located at 157859, 7th Line.

Municipal Compost and Mulch for Sale
Compost material generated from Municipality of Meaford's Leaf and Yard Composting Facility waste collection program is for sale at the site Fire #157859 7th Line during normal operating hours. Fridays 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Please remember to bring a shovel and containers for loading your own compost and wear appropriate footwear. The Municipality will not sell any other materials that are located on-site including all aggregates and screened topsoil. These materials are for exclusive use by Municipality of Meaford only and are not for sale. The Municipality has the right to limit all quantities of material taken off-site. |

Save your money - COMPOST!
GREEN BIN COLLECTION IS WEEKLY AND WILL OCCUR ON THE SAME DAY AS YOUR RECYCLING COLLECTION. PLEASE REFER TO YOUR 2012 MUNICIPALITY OF MEAFORD WASTE MANAGEMENT GUIDE FOR COLLECTION DATES.
Composting is easy!
All residents are encouraged to put out their Green Bin each week beside their recycling.
Compost / Organics pick-up occurs weekly within designated areas on the same day as recycling pick- up.
Put your organics in a "compostable" bag suitable for green waste. These are available at grocery stores, hardware stores, and department stores. You may prefer to utlilize the small plastic lidded container under your sink, with a compostable bag inside for kitchen waste and transfer the waste into a larger green bin.
Acceptable Organics for Municipal Pick-up
- - vegetable and fruit scraps (cooked or uncooked)
- - meat, bones (cooked or uncooked)
- - leftovers (bread, cooked foods etc.)
- - Kleenex / tissues / paper towels

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION
This event is open to residents of the City of Owen Sound, the Municipality of Meaford, the Township of Georgian Bluffs, the Municipality of Grey Highlands, Township of West Grey and the Township of Southgate. Please bring identification indicating your home address.
We regret that we cannot accept any materials generated by businesses, farm operations, institutions or industries. Nor can we accept materials containing PCB's (e.g.: fluorescent light ballasts), infectious wastes (e.g.: old syringes), radioactive wastes (e.g.: smoke detectors), explosives, ammunition or flares. Nor can we accept unidentified wastes, so please make sure that everything you bring is in a container.

ELECTRONIC WASTE COLLECTION
FREE E-WASTE DEPOT
Habitat for Humanity ReStore and the Municpality of Meaford have partnered to provide a Free E Waste Depot site.
When: Every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month 9:00am - noon
Where: Stewart St. Municipal Workshed, Meaford (brown shed across from the firehall)
We will accept
All electronics including: computers, monitors, computers, TVs, stereos, printers, faxes, phones and much more. Working or not.

At Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce’s ReStore we sell both new and used quality surplus home renovation products at a fraction of retail prices. Materials sold by the Habitat ReStore are donated from various sources, for example:

- Designers and Developers
- Home Owners
- E Waste
Proceeds from the ReStore support Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce building program. In addition to raising funds, the ReStore helps the environment by diverting thousands of tons of usable materials from the landfills.

BALE WRAP RECYCLING
The Municipality of Meaford is working with Think Plastics Inc. from New Hamburg, Ontario, on a balewrap recycling collection program located at the Leaf and Yard Waste Facility, 157859 7th Line, Meaford.
All members of the farming community may participate in this "free" waste diversion initiative.
This program is offered from April 30, 2011 to June 25, 2011. Hours of Operation are Fridays from 12 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. ACCEPTABLE BALEWRAP
Only linear low density polyethylene film that is white on both sides can be accepted.
UNACCEPTABLE MATERIALS
- - Balewrap that is not prepared properly
- - Coloured balewrap (e.g., black, green, etc.)
- - Balewrap that is white on one side and coloured on the other
- - White balewrap that is wrapped with twine or placed in bags
- - Twine, plastic containers/pails, plastic bags, garbage, etc.
PREPARATION INSTRUCTIONS
In order to be suitable for recycling, Think Plastics requires the balewrap to be prepared as follows:
- - Shake the plastic to eliminate rocks and stones.
- - Ensure that there is only a minimal amount of dirt on the balewrap. Washing is not necessary however, material with excessive dirt cannot be accepted for recycling.
- - Cut balewrap into small sections and roll the material.
- - Each bundle must weigh between 1.5 to 2.5 kg (3 to 5 lb.).
- - Do not put balewrap into bags or tie with twine.
- - Let the attendant know that you have balewrap and follow the drop-off instructions.
- - There is no tipping fee to drop-off properly prepared balewrap.
- - Customers are responsible for unloading the balewrap and placing it into the specified collection area.
CURBSIDE SWAP DAY
GOODS EXCHANGE/CURBSIDE SWAP DAY
SATURDAY MAY 19th, 2012
- Place unwanted, but usable items, at the curb or road side for anyone to pick up
(ie. Usable furniture, books, tools, sporting goods, toys, etc.)
- - In order to identify items that are part of the Curb Side Swap Program, use signage stating items are “FREE”, or tie a white plastic bag to one of the items to indicate this.
- - Any leftover items remain your responsibility and must be removed from the curb by no later than 7pm on Saturday May 21st, 2011
- - The Municipality of Meaford will not assume any liability for items lost or removed during goodS exchange/curbside swap day. Please do not pick up anything unless you are sure that it is a goods exchange day item.
- - Residents are reminded to drive carefully, watch for pedestrians and obey all traffic laws.
